Since the last time I posted, so much has happened: The pandemic finally ended. Unfortunately we’re still under President Fuckface. I changed careers. Most recently I fucked up my hair and shaved my head.
I’ll talk mostly about the two least depressing, career and hair. In 2023 Rhonda called my bluff about going back to school to become a paramedic (I’m not a paramedic). So I went back to school and became an EMT. I also learned that I love certain types of math. After being afraid of it my whole academic and parental life, it turns out that statistics is my jam. Or at least it was while I was in the class. I was not the oldest student in my EMT class, however, so I felt pretty good about that. One of my other classmates had me by a couple months. I finished class in April of 2024 and was hired by my current employer on May 20th of the same year.
I legitimately enjoy my work. The company I work for is a monster company, but my actual employer is a teeny, tiny part of the machine. We do very important work, even though it’s not “front line” EMT work. I make a little difference each time I help someone, and that’s the important part.
Now, on to my hair. It was purple and chin length. I took the front portion of my hair and bleached the everloving fuck out of it and toned it a nice icy white.
It did not survive.
It broke off and looked weird after a week in Montana. It was a beautiful trip with the most wonderful friends, but the hard water and firehose pressure of the showerhead did it in. After we got back, I gave myself a little shag cut. Under the influence, no less. It was okay, but it was uneven. A few weeks later, I got out the old clippers and gave myself a cute buzz cut.
A few weeks later, this past Sunday, I got a new set of clippers and decided to clean up around my ears and neck. I didn’t pick the right attachment and took a big ol’ gouge out of the back of my hair. No way to hide that, so I buzzed it all off. Short enough to see my scalp and realize it needs some moisture!
I kinda like it. Extremely low maintenance, very little product needed. Cold even in the warm spring air we’re having right now. Maybe I’ll let some grow back, I’ll have a month or so to decide if I like it or not. I’ll try to update the blog with my choice, but no guarantees I’ll remember.
